A disappointing 13th place for Kevin Lacroix

The Atlantic series drivers measured up this weekend at the Circuit du Mont-Tremblant for the third race of the season. Thanks to an awesome performance under the rain yesterday, St-Eustache’s Kevin Lacroix was able to take the pole position at the end of the second qualifying session. Unfortunately, the celebrations were cut short for the young driver due to an off-track excursion that sent him at the back of the pack.

“I’ve created my own misfortune!”, says the Québec driver. “I missed my start and ended up in fourth place but, by corner 4, I was third. I made a mistake at the ultra-fast corner 10, my cold tires caught me by surprise. I took the corner too fast and just lost control of the car before touching the wall. Out of luck, my front wing broke forcing me to stop by the pits to fix it. My race was therefore over.”

Always a fighter, Kevin Lacroix came back on track and clocked a series of fast laps, similar to the race leaders’. “I continued my race, isolated from the pack, until the first full course yellow that occurred on lap 20.” At that time, Kevin was 17th and was then able to reach the back of the pack. “I was directly behind my teammate, Leo Mansell, at the restart of the race,” explains Kevin. “He missed his restart and I moved beside him, to the inside of the first corner, he obviously didn’t see me since he kept his race line. I got on the rumble strip to avoid contact with his car, but it was too late. We touched and Leo went off-track. I must admit that it was a hairy move to make at this corner because it’s too narrow to go in two cars wide. It is my mistake. It seemed that nothing was working for me on track today. The race ended shortly after that with a disappointing 13th place,” concludes the young driver.

Junior Straus took his his first Atlantics race win of the season in front of the 24 year-old rookie Makus Niemela, who raced in the GP2 series last year. Carl Skerlong took the third place.

The next race will be presented on July 25th, a double feature event that will be fought on one of the Edmonton’s airport runways converted into a race track for the weekend.
