Kevin Lacroix takes the checkered in 8th place

The drivers of the Champ Car Atlantic series were battling for the win for a second race in two days. The Quebec driver took the start from 10th. Kevin had a good start and defended his position well. After a few laps, when Skerlong encountered mechanical problems, Kevin found himself 8th and in a good place to improve his place in the field. However, an error on lap 10 cost him two spots and he had to start all over again.

Kevin Lacroix didn’t give up. He gained a position on the following lap and then superbly overtook John Edwards on the inside by late braking. The Quebec driver was able to control his car to complete the brilliant maneuver. Kevin finds himself 8th again. He manages to shorten the gap between the driver up front, Giacomo Rici, but he’s unable to get close enough to overtake him. Kevin has just taken the checkered flag in 8th place and joins the Top 10 again for a third time out of seven races this year, including his first Champ Car Atlantic win in Portland. Kevin Lacroix realized this uncommon feat at the wheel of a car prepared by the modest Brooks Associates Team.

Kevin’s comments

“I had a good start in the race, I gained two positions, but I made a mistake by exiting the turn too close to the wall, which slowed me down considerately. Ryan Lewis and John Edwards took this opportunity to overtake me. However, I was faster than them and I was able to overtake them later in the race.”

“I then started to attack Giacomo Rici. I quickly gained up on him, I applied pressure, but he didn’t falter. It was impossible to try to overtake him.”

We have just learned that Adrian Carrio was disqualified after the race. Kevin then gets the 7th place for the second Edmonton race. In the standings, Kevin is 12th, although he didn’t take part in the first three races and in the rookies standings, he’s 6th out of 22 rookies. Really impressive.

Next race

“As you know, I will not take the start of the San José race, we knew we didn’t have the budget to do all rounds when we signed with Brooks Associates Racing, we then decided to skip the San José race in order to take the start of the following race in Elkhart Lake, on August 12th. It is more important to be from the start at the last race. However, I would’ve liked to race in San José…

In hindsight, the most important will be next year, when I should be able to make all the starts of the next season.”
